Mental Gymnastics - quick Sudokus with a twist
QUICK SUDOKUS (with a twist)
Standard Sudokus can be tedious. They often involve boring repetition of routine techniques until the one interesting step comes along. And unless you have a brain the size of a planet, you need a pen or some other method to keep track of your progress.
So I have reduced some diabolical Sudokus from sudokuoftheday.com to their most interesting single step, and forced solvers to find an alternative method of solution by hiding some cell values.
If you are unfamiliar with Sudokus I recommend going to sudokuoftheday.com to get the hang of them and learn their rules, some of which are:
- A Sudoku should have 30 or less initial values filled in out of the 81 total
- Sudoku should be solvable by entirely logical deduction – no guesses should be needed
- For aesthetic reasons, a Sudoku should have rotational symmetry – the positions of the initially filled in cells should be the same if you were to turn your page round.
- The Sudoku must only have one solution!
My puzzles are standard 9X9 Sudokus which are partially completed. But some of the cells are hidden from view . Other cells are either filled or contain the only possible values for that cell.
To solve, you only need to find one more cell value. Finding the value of a hidden cell does not count but may help towards solving. No pen or paper is necessary. No computers. Some of these will take experienced solvers 5 seconds, some 5 minutes. They should be easy for those with enough maths to understand how limited so much published science on diabetes is. No guessing. If you can’t prove that your solution is correct, then you haven’t solved the puzzle. There are no tricks. You cannot use the published solution as your answer, but it may point you in the right direction. Your solution must use only the obvious information in the grid, and the given that it is a Sudoku and conforms to the usual rules thereof. Where multiple puzzles are derived from one original, you cannot combine information from different puzzles.
If you are having trouble, revisit sudokuoftheday.com and do the diabolicals online, as I have done every day for many years.
